Dayak war shield

An
important old war shield
originating from Kenyah
tribes of Eastern Kalimantan, the surface is adorned with rows of human
hair from the
victims of early headhunting raids, these human hair talismans were
designed to protect and empower the owner in battle.

The shield measures 41 inches in height and 15 inches in width and it is painted in native pigments of black charcoal and a red organic plant pigment mixed with a tree resin binder
