Asmat Citak war shield

Similar in the form to the Brazza River
shields this well used shield is made from light wood for easy carrying
during battles, it is incised with non-figural motifs painted with red
and white pigments outlined by black relief-bands. The top of the
shield is uncarved but painted with simple bands and dots.Collected from the Citak tribes of eastern Asmat north of the Wildeman River during the 80's this shield is similar in the form to the Brazza River shields, well used, it is made from light wood for easy carrying during battles. Incised with non-figural motifs painted with red and white pigments outlined by black relief-bands, the top of the shield is uncarved but painted with simple bands and dots.
